Ramnaresh Sarwan said it was still unclear how long he would be out of action with his injured right shoulder. West Indies will wait until after the Headingley Test to fully assess Sarwan's chances of playing the remaining two Tests in the series.
Sarwan hurt his AC joint when he dived to try to intercept a Paul Collingwood drive on Friday. "When I fell I heard a crackling sound but I am happy that there is no fracture," Sarwan said.
"I did sustain some damage to the ligaments but at this stage we do not know how long it will take to heal. We will sit down after this Test match and make a decision about my further involvement in the series."
Sarwan handed the captaincy duties to his deputy, Daren Ganga, for the remainder of the second Test. West Indies had a mammoth task ahead of them to force a draw when they were 22 for 2 at the close of day two, but the third day's washout gave them a glimmer of hope.
"The weather was certainly in our favour today on day three but that still leaves two more days in the Test match and the task is still an uphill one," Sarwan said. "I have confidence in the guys to pull out something special even without Shiv and myself fully available."
