TEAMS
From the time that he caught the eye of selectors of Western Australia's
under-17 team, Kade Harvey's development as an allrounder was closely watched. He progressed on to become a central figure in the Sandgropers'
under-19 squad and a brilliant national carnival in 1994-95 then won him a
spot at the Australian Cricket Academy and in a national team which met an
Indian youth side in early 1995. Senior state honours followed for the
first time later the same season, and he performed impressively in the
handful of first-class and limited overs matches that came his way. It was when he become cast as a specialist one-day player that his impact became significant. After winning the 'Best New Talent' award in the Mercantile Mutual Cup season of 1996-97, he was part of two sides which won limited overs titles for the state. For a period of four years (following his haul of 18 scalps in 1996-97), he also shared the record for the most number of wickets taken by an individual bowler in a single domestic one-day season and when he retired was only the second bowler to have taken 100 ING Cup wickets. He was additionally a dual winner of the Olly Cooley Medal - awarded to the best player in Perth grade competition - having claimed the accolade in successive seasons in 1998-99 and 1999-2000. Harvey's fielding was dynamic, his batting solid (he not only had a tight technique but also possessed the capacity to hit out effectively) and his skidding medium-pace bowling was economical and full of deceptive variation. Away from the cricket field, he is a qualified pharmacist.
