West Indies struggled its way to 238 for 7 in reply to Somerset's 488 at the end of day two at Taunton. A win over the West Indies would enable Somerset a chance of winning 11,000 from the sponsors Vodafone. The performance of second string bowling attack of Somerset who are without Caddick, Graham Rose and Steffan Jones who were all rested and Matt Bulbeck who is injured, would have pleased Cox.
With three overs to go for the lunch the Windies lost Adrian Griffith to Grove. Then thing became worse after lunch with Chris Gayle, Sherwin Campbell and Chanderpaul getting out. Lara who had scored four boundaries in his 18 was out hooking into Jamie Cox to Joe Tucker who took his first wicket in his second ball of his first class career. Things would have been even worse but for a career best innings of an unbeaten 97 by Mahendra Nagamootoo and his undefeated stand of 97 for the eighth wicket with wicketkeeper Wayne Phillip (35 not out).
Somerset resumed the day at 390 for 6 and batted almost till lunch before Jamie Grove was the last man out. Keith Parsons remained unbeaten on 193 from 304 balls with 22 fours and a six. This made him the highest scorer by a Somerset player against the Windies erasing the previous best of 162 not out by Jimmy Cook in 1991.
